Flooding an area in Minecraft?

Hi, I'm new to the forum, so I don't know how these work, but here's my question.
There is a huge trench I found, and I like to flood it with water so I can make a castle and bridge. Are there any faster ways to make water go everywhere? Thanks for the help.

As far as i know, no. Best idea would be to get some buckets. Make a Infinite water Generator (Simple 2x2 pit) and begin hauling flank.

You could make it one block deep, then fill it, the remove the layer of blocks so that it would pour down.

Fill in the area with a block of choice that stands out form the rest (maybe gravel/cobblestone) and fill it up to the point where there is just one block of space left for you to place water. After that, simply remove your block of choice and whoop de doo! Water, water everywhere.

Step one: make a platform of easy to remove blocks one level below the level you want the water level to be.
Step two:
You can either prep the area by doing a diagonal line of water sources between two diagonal lines of blocks and then work your way across breaking the blocks containing the sources to flood the area OR see this video for an alternate way:
Step three: Remove the platform underneath your layer of water.
This is really the only legit way for very large projects. However it comes with a downside and that is that there are no water source blocks below the top layer, only flowing water, so it is very difficult to swim upward.

Re: 3D Minecraft - Anyone tried it?
by c0yote
I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

Here's how I do it:

I would build a 1 block deep platform over the whole area you want to flood, one block lower than you want the water to be then cover the platform in water and then destroy the platform. The water will then fill the trench to the bottom.
You should see this Minecraft city world that has been flooded and partially under water its epic!

Why did you resurrect a 4 year old thread just to repeat the solution that was already given several times?

Just testing.

Well, had this thread not been resurrected, I might not have learned this easier way to make a pond. Now I know.
lol So it is doing some good.
